Bee Cave, Texas
Hill Country Galleria Mall – Front Water Feature / Amphitheater
We were asked by the owner to create two “memorable” areas. He wanted the front drive around water feature to be recognized as the nicest water feature in Austin. He wanted the amphitheater to be a place all people and families would enjoy.
Being that Bee Cave is on the edge of the Texas Hill Country, we wanted to maintain settings of natural stone and water. We wanted the water the water and the seating areas to be inviting. The amphitheater should be able to be used for multiple purposes.
We were able to create a multi-tiered water feature in the circle that used large sandstone handpicked from a quarry in San Saba. We were able to design the feature to be visually appealing from all sides. The end result of the amphitheater was building multiple tiers of seating from block limestone and surrounding it with water. We installed a boulder lined stream and pond on both sides, along with an interactive fountain to watch or play in below. This area doubles as a stage for music often. Lastly, a large flagstone seating area is covered with a cedar trellis to provide shade.
Using natural stone to surround colored and textured concrete, these water features create a “believable” hill country setting in a large development. The gunite for the streams was colored, stamped with a stone texture and waterproofed.
Crystal Fountain components, stone from Jarrell and San Saba, Kemiko concrete stains, Xypex waterproofing and Proline texture skins were all used.
These two areas were only a portion of the entire hardscaping scope, including all flatwork, stone, pavers and decorative concrete.
